Hello?

Hi.

It’s Leigh.

I came back to this blog, because I don’t really have anything else to do on Saturday nights but, you know, look up my blog from practically a year ago!

I am considering getting back into blogging, but coming back.. I don’t really understand it.

I’ve been gone for so long.

I might get back into posting, but I think all of my friends have left, and I don’t know how to work it.

If you used to be my wordpress friend- Pherisphena, Kirsten, Manet, Katie, Shelby- sorry if I forgot you :c please comment below! I’d like to know if I’m talking to myself haha (:

The Titanic

This ship is sinking,
You’re out of time,
You better have you pen inking
Down your rhymes

The last chance
For your untrue words
An untidy romance
Before I put up the boards

One more time to take the stairs
One more time to have some tea
One more time to visit the fairs
One more time to sing with glee

Because it’ll be your last,
I wish it wasn’t true
But you can’t fix these masts,
Before my face turns blue

A Sorta-Kinda Crazy Poem

Smoothly floating over roses,
Surreal dreams striking poses,
Soaring over fields of white,
There’s love almost as much as spite.

A burning candle,
A blurring handle,
Can you hear me,
Let me see

An hourglass slowly draining,
Yet up here it’s still raining,
Before the clock strikes midnight,
Under the moon, a lover’s delight

Look at all the children playing
Listen to the words I’m saying
Ring the bell for dinner now
Show’s over, take a bow.

Pictures :)

Hello! I know that I missed Halloween, Nano, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Pheris+ Kirsten’s birthdays, New Years, and Martin Luther King day- I’m sorry. I don’t have much of an explanation. Sorry! Anyways I got my Nikon! Yay! Here’s some pictures: Of my cousins house, the campus where she works, and around my neighborhood.

Sorry for no writing! :(

Hello. I’m Alive.

Hello! I’ve been gone forever, I need to post, I need to comment  on your posts (really really bad) , and I need to get back to blogging in general!

I’m going to steal an idea from my friend Taylor Lynn and use her “What I’ve Been…” format to update you on my life the past, you know, five weeks.

What I’ve Been Reading:

Loads Of Agatha Christie!I’ve been addicted since the Murder on the Orient Express. My favorites would have to be Evil Under the Sun (Poirot), A Murder is Announced (Marple), or And Then There Were None. These days I’ll literally walk into the kitchen, eyes glued to a book, and screech to my mother “No, Linda don’t do it! Nooooo! She was innocent!”

What I’ve Been Doing:

Getting into the Christmas Spirt! Hanging up lights, putting up ornaments, playing Mom’s Christmas playlist… and such. Abandoning my Nano Novel. Preparing for school spelling bee. Pigging out on Thanksgiving. Daydreaming about Reed, the Nikon Coolpix L120 I’m hoping to get for Christmas…

What I’ve Been Listening To:

Some oldies like The Beatles (LOVE them, especially Hey Jude and Blackbird), The Script, Jack Johnson, Florence and The Machine… bouncing all around.

I should post this before I forget.

Yes, A Camera

Conversation between me and my father:

Leigh: So, when I get my camera-

Dad: You have a camera.

Leigh: No, I don’t.

Dad: The red one.

Leigh: I know, I’m taking about a real camera.

Dad: That is a real camera.

Leigh: No, that is a beat up, half-decade old, Kodak.

Dad: It takes pictures, right? It’s a camera.

Leigh: I’m talking about a Nikon Coolpix L120 with 21x optical zoom and 14.48 total pixels.

Dad: How do you know that?

Leigh: I’ve done my research.

Dad: You can always use my phone.

Leigh: That’s even worse than the old one.

Dad; Why? It takes pictures.

Leigh: It takes blurry, unfocused images.

Dad: Same thing.

Leigh: We’re back where we started. Besides, it’s not like I’m asking for an $8000 D3X. It’s only $280.

Dad: $280!?

Leigh: It’s quite reasonable, actually.Would you prefer the $8000 one?

Dad: Why can’t you use my phone again?

Here we go again.

Beautiful People: Anabel Cicada and Finn Dawning

Characters in my new Nano novel! You’ve met Anabel, and Finn is the “villian” in the story. Personally, I think the antagonist is just as important as the protagonist, which is why Finn is here.

1. How old is he/she?

Anabel is 12, Finn is 12 also, nearly 13.

2. What does he/she do with his/her spare time?

Anabel paints, writes, and plays volleyball. She also people-watches. Finn, on the other hand, used to write short stories and photograph, but now she’s busy being evil. You know.

3. Does he/she see the big picture or live in the moment?

Anabel sees the ocean, not the wave- despite pictures and stories of how her father loved her, she still believes he abandoned her family because of her.  Finn looks at one thing- i.e. her sisters insanity- and is determined to get revenge.
4. Is he/she a perfectionist?

Anabel, no way, she’s a painter/poet for goodness sakes, but Finn sort of is.
5.What does her handwriting look like? (round, slanted, curly, skinny, sloppy, neat, decorative, etc.)

Anabel’s is neat and slanted, but Finn’s is small and cramped.

6. Favorite animal?

Anabel’s a fan of the mighty eagle, but Finn prefers the sly fox.

7. Does he/she have any pets?

Anabel has a cat named Hunter.

8. Does he/she have any siblings? How many? Where does he/she fit in?

Anabel’s an only child, Finn has a 16 year old sister, Rowen who has been mentally insane for the past two years. It’s very important.

9. Does he/she have a ‘life verse’ and if so what is it?

Anabel: Trust Only Yourself. Finn: Avenge Everyone

10. Favorite writing utensil?

Anabel always uses her favorite black ballpoint pen, Finn a random pencil.

  1. Sum up your novel in five words, or less.
Alone. Together. Abandonment. Power. Words.
2. Novel title?
The Word Shapers, for now.
3. Sum up your main character(s) in one word.
Anabel: Direct. Leo: Witty. Finn: Determined.
4. Advice for newbies in three words?
Give (1) Me (2) Advice (3)!
5. Tell us about your secondary characters, how do they affect the story?
Erika is why Anabel ventures out in the first place, Lucy keeps them from doing a whole lot of stupid things, Rowen is why Finn’s evil,  Seamus is why Leo met Anabel at all, Drew saved her life, and Isadora gave them the wisdom to overcome.
Fairly important people, no?
6. Do you plan on staying up till midnight on the 31st?
The 30th, actually, and no, my parents would kill me.
7. How many years have you done NaNo?
This is my first.
8. What came first, characters, or plot idea?
Characters! Anabel, then Leo.
9. How much prep do you do before November?
Basically none. Um…
10. Now be honest, how do you really feel about NaNo?
Scared out of my mind.

Beautiful People: Anabel Cicada

Hiya, everyone! Beautiful people time!

ANNABEL

1. Do they have any habits, annoying or otherwise?

Yup. She always braids her hair, unbraids it, rebraids it, unbraids it, rebraids it… on and on when she’s thinking or nervous. It’s pretty tiring to watch.

2. What is their backstory and how does it affect them now?

Okay. So her father ran away right after she was born, she doesn’t know anything about him and thinks it was because of her that he left, even though it wasn’t- no spoiling!

But anyways, it’s made her really wary of men and her mother hasn’t dated at all since then, so, yes, that affects her, and she’s always felt a little bit guilty because she thinks she’s the reason her father left and made her mother so sad. She really loves her mother.

Also, her mother Felicity- she used to be a brilliant student and was about to go, on scholarship, to (prestigious college, but not like Harvard) until her father died from cancer and her mother wasted away and didn’t eat, and she was left to care for her 8-year-old sister Beatrice. When Felicity was 24 she fell in love with a young man who had a secret hanging over his head-
He had a xxxxx xx xxxx.*
(Pretty good story about Felicity to think of in 5 minutes, hmm? Maybe I’m writing this book about the wrong person.)

3. How do they show love?

A smile? She’s not exactly emotional. She isn’t thought of a sullen or moody because she can fake a smile like some people can tie their shoes, and it’s only when you see one of her real smiles- very rare- or hear her laugh you know she’s truly happy

4. How competitive are they?

Depends. With some people she really doesn’t care, but with her friends and enemies, she can be extremely competitive. Particularly Leo, who bounces back and forth between the two- friend and enemy.

She’s also a very good debated. She can go on for hours.

5. What do they think about when nothing else is going on?
She actually loves people watching, and makes up stories about them, which often come closer to the truth than normally would. So, people, I guess.

6. Do they have an accent?

Nope.

7. What is their station in life?

Hmm…

She’s a student (7th- 9th grade, haven’t decided yet), and she often helps in her mother’s job teaching art classes. I don’t really know. She’s 12.

8. What do others expect from them?

Sort of a lot. Her teachers compare her to her once-brilliant mother, her friends expect her to lead them, and her mother just wants her to replace her older sister.

9. Where were they born, and when?

12 years ago, on December 1st. It was a Wednesday. Her mother had her at 5:00 AM, her favorite time of day, and it was a raging storm outside. Kind of like Anabel herself.

10. How do they feel about people in general?

She likes them from afar, but has learned to never let them get too close. She’s sort of a loner.

*Yes, Mr. Bosch. Nice trick. Anyways, can’t tell you!

Five Must Reads

Even though you deserve an awesome explanation as to why I was gone the past two weeks, five days, four hours,  sixteen minutes, and twelve- no, thirteen- seconds, I have no explanation. I just kind of… took an extremely long hiatus. At least, to me. I just said I’d blog tomorrow. Then the next day. As a wise… somebody… once said, why do today what you can do tomorrow? With that attitude every day, you can put things off for all eternity.

So. Very sorry. Now, as the title says, five of my most interesting recent reads. Here goes. I’m not writing a review, just saying that I enjoyed them

1. Elsewhere , by Gabrielle Zevin

2. Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City  by Kirsten Miller

3.   Uprising by Margaret Peterson Haddix

4. Duchessina by Carolyn Myers

5.  The Son of Neptune
